Are you ready to experience the winter olympics? I sure would like to help. Let’s follow what happens there like it would take place in our own backyard. I can help. Vancouver citizen, skier and snowboarder, University of British Columbia graduate (English lit.), and experienced ESL teacher, at your service!
The series of classes proposed here is intended as a guided discussion and workgroup reporting on the Vancouver2010 winter olympics, beginning on Feb. 12, 2010. If you have ok reading and comprehension skills and English (since you got this far in reading this ad, there should not be a problem for you to take part in English only activities for the class), and if you want to make the winter olympics your textbook for intensive training, this exciting event will keep us busy reading, writing and talking. Gold medals for everybody at the end of the class!
A distribution of topics and concepts:
1. class one: let’s get to know each other. questions and suggestions. entrance exam for teams studying the olympics: media center, tourism office, event management, etc.
2. class two: team presentations, forum sign-up @ https://eduforum.vancouver2010.com and event follow up schedule/ focus on singulars and plurals
3. class three: world response to olympic topics / articles
4. class four: heroes, locals, image flux / word order.
vixens, robots, designer toys, luchadores / prepositions
5. class five: olympic sports / prepositions
6. class six: winter culture / gerunds, infinitives and participles
7. class seven: lessons learned / modal and auxiliary verbs
8. last class: conclusions and medals!
